Spotify today (December 6) declared the release a host of new functions, like option to ‘follow’ Facebook friends, artists and experts on the music streaming site.
You will quickly manage to follow NME and listen to our playlists and also music options from the likes of Slash, Lou Reed, Lana Del Rey, The xx, Barack Obama and Spotify CEO and founder, Daniel Ek.
Of the new update functions, Ek has said: “Users inform us they don’t know exactly what to listen to, and artists inform us they would like to connect more carefully with fans. So we’re making a new and personalised way of discovering great music.”
At a launch event in New York, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and Napster founder and Spotify investor Sean Parker hidden their long-standing hatchet on stage. The happy couple fell out in the late 1990s when Parker attempted to share Metallica’s music for free on the web.
Metallica have recently been added to Spotify’s music library. “When I was checking out Spotify for the first time, I was surprised at the ease of it,” said Ulrich. “This was so simple and set up for the enthusiasts.”
And also the new ‘follow’ tab, there’s even a brand new ‘discover’ function, which delivers customers new and relevant content and information on users’ favorite artists. NME is going to be hosting its own ‘discover’ tab alongside many other media partners.
Spotify’s new functions will be applied as part of a desktop application update in the next weeks, and there might be a cross-platform upgrade in 2013.
